David Tuffley has been involved with the IT industry since 1987. He combines a successful commercial career with academic involvement with the School of Computing & IT, Griffith University, where he conducts research in the area of optimising the analysis of IS business requirements. He has developed a proven methodology for this process that has been successfully applied in mission-critical commercial projects. This methodology has received international recognition, having been published by Springer-Verlag, London, and used by such U.S. organisations as InTel, Sony, Panasonic, Toyota, and Australia's CSIRO (see http://tuffley.com/clients.htm). The methodology is also used by academic institutions nationally and internationally as part of undergraduate and postgraduate Software Engineering courses.
David is an associate of the Software Quality Institute at Griffith University, a world-class centre of excellence in software development process improvement research and industry transfer. Via the SQI he has been a consultant to the Australian Defence Department in the area of managing the risk of software intensive system development projects. David is also involved with Software Engineering Australia's ongoing IT industry improvement program as a qualified SPICE assessor (ISO 15504 - Software Process Improvement and Capability Determination).

Energex (Retail), Energy Trading Dept. Anzac Square, Brisbane, Qld.
Two main elements; Conducting integration of existing retail systems, and development of a knowledge management system for the Energy Trading Department. This included analysis of existing processes and interfaces, redisign of processes in accordance with industry best practice, the development of functional requirements specifications, and the conversion/integration of exisiting department documentation into a HTML knowledge-base. This is applied Information Systems Quality (ISQ) research, originating from Griffith University’s School of Computing and IT (see Academic work section above).

Working within a multi-disciplinary team to implement the Contract Billing System (a Delphi application) for enterprise-wide use. My role was to design and develop and integrate the on-line support resources into a knowledge-base. The documentation is delivered on-line as a combination of help files and HTML/Intranet. The role included the development of a full-function intranet support site, including forms, search etc.

Design, development and maintenance of a substantial suite of user and technical documentation for Stallion’s extensive range of serial data communications products. Documentation is required to be of a high standard for mass consumption, produced in paper and on-line formats. Stallion won the AITA Exporter of the Year award, 1991. Role included developing a support knowledge-base to allow users to access troubleshooting information via the internet.

QMS 2000 was to be implemented across Telstra's entire IT group. The project involved an extended team located in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. My role was to advise the project manager on matters relating to AS 3563 compliance and to help produce the documentation.

General Electric Information Systems - Implementation Services (London).
Member of a project team which produced a suite of user guides and training materials for a global freight forwarding system developed by GEIS for the Swedish transport group ASG. Involved both the development and subsequent presentation of course materials in the United Kingdom and Sweden (Stockholm). This was a highly challenging project which called for a very high standard of courseware and the ability to communicate to people whose first language was not English.

BOS Software - London.
Development and presentation of software training courses for the BOS suite of software. Included implementing systems on-site throughout the United Kingdom and the West Indies (Antigua). In addition to a strong commercial and industrial client base, the BOS suite had been implemented at British embassies and consulates throughout the world. A notable client was the Hammerson Group PLC, a London-based multi-national property development group. I installed the BOS accounting ledgers at head office, supervised the conversion of the existing accounts data and the trained the accounts staff in the use of the software. These activities were typical of my on-site work over the two years.
